The Denver Broncos sign RB P.J. Pope

The Broncos have signed running back P.J. Pope to the practice squad.  Pope played in all 4 preseason games for the Bears and he carried the ball 22 times for 80 yards (3.6 ypc).  He also caught 5 passes for 42 yards (8.4 avg) this preseason.  Pope will have to earn a shot in practice but he appears to have some talent so he was worth signing.

The Denver Broncos claim safety Calvin Lowry off waivers from the Titans

The Broncos might have hit a homer here in adding safety Calvin Lowry off waivers from the Titans.  Lowry played in all 4 preseason games for the Titans and he made 14 tackles, had 1 sack and defensed 1 pass.  Lowry played in 32 games (11 starts) that count for the Titans and he made 68 tackles, defensed 10 passes and he intercepted 2 passes.  Lowry’s a talented player and the Broncos were shrewd in picking him up.

The over/under for Denver Broncos wins is 7.5 for 2008

This numbers seems a tad low to me when you consider that the Broncos will probably win 4 games against the Chiefs and Raiders this season.  That means the Broncos would only have to win 4 games against everyone else and I feel that they will do that with ease.  Take the over with the Broncos in 2008 and double your money.

The Denver Broncos place RB Anthony Alridge on I.R.

The Broncos have placed running back Anthony Alridge on the Injured Reserve List with a torn ligement in his left foot.  That is a shame as Alridge was likely to make the Broncos’ final roster.  He carried the ball 27 times for 130 yards (4.8 ypc) in the preseason for the Broncos and he also caught 5 passes for 33 yards (6.6 avg).  The Broncos will give him another chance to prove himself in 2009.

The Denver Broncos sign WR Travis Wilson to the practice squad

The Broncos have signed WR Travis Wilson to the practice squad.  Wilson played well this preseason for the Browns as he caught 9 passes for 115 yards (12.8 avg).  But, Wilson has been a bust when the games were played for real.  Wilson has only played in 4 games (1 start) in his NFL career despite playing two seasons and he caught 2 passes for 32 yards (16.0 avg).  Wilson will likely be a project for the Broncos as he likely won’t be ready to help them anytime soon.

The Denver Broncos trade guard Montrae Holland to the Cowboys

The Broncos have traded 28-year old guard Montrae Holland to the Cowboys for a 5th round pick in the 2010 NFL Draft.  Holland started all 16 games for the Broncos last season in his only year in Denver and he did a decent job.  But, getting a 5th round pick for him was too good for the Broncos to pass up.
