Jay Cutler had a solid 2008 season for the Denver Broncos

25-year old Jay Cutler really stepped up in 2008 for the Broncos but the defense didn’t do their part in getting the team to the playoffs.  Cutler played in 16 games (all starts) for the Broncos last season and he completed 384 of 616 passes (62.3%) for 4,526 yards with 25 TD passes and 18 interceptions (86.0 QB Rating).  He also carried the ball 57 times for 200 yards (3.5 ypc) with 2 TD runs last season.  Cutler has now played in 37 games (all starts) in his career with the Broncos and he has completed 762 of 1,220 passes (62.5%) for 9,024 yards with 54 TD passes and 37 interceptions (87.1 QB Rating).  He also has carried the ball 113 times for 423 yards (3.7 ypc) with 3 TD runs.  The best is yet to come from Cutler in the very near future.

29-year old Patrick Ramsey probably won’t be back with the Broncos after injuring himself pretty seriously this season.  He played in 1 game (0 starts) for the Broncos this season and he was 2 for 3 (66.7%) for 19 yards with 0 TD passes and 0 interceptions (84.0 QB Rating).  Ramsey has now played in 37 games (24 starts) in his NFL career and he has completed 511 of 913 passes (56.0%) for 5,930 yards with 35 TD passes and 30 interceptions (74.9 QB Rating).  He has also carried the ball 47 times for 89 yards (1.9 ypc) with 2 TD runs.

The Denver Broncos fire Mike Shanahan

The Denver Broncos have fired head coach Mike Shanahan.  This was a shock to most as Shanahan has great credentials but the front office was angry with the December collapse that caused them to miss the playoffs.  Shanahan was the head man in Denver for 14 seasons in which he compiled a 138-86 record (61.6% wins) during the regular season.  He was also 8-5 in the post season (61.5% wins) including winning two Super Bowls in 1997 and 1998.  It will be interesting to see how well the next coach does in Denver as Shanahan set the bar pretty high.
