The Broncos have signed 29-year old RB Willis McGahee to a 4-year, $10 million dollar deal.  McGahee played in 15 games (2 starts) for the Ravens last year and he carried the ball 100 times for 380 yards (3.8 ypc) with 5 TD runs.  McGahee also caught 14 passes for 55 yards (3.9 avg) with 1 TD grab last year.  He has now played in 105 games (66 starts) in his first 7 years in the NFL and he has carried the ball 1,541 times for 6,167 yards (4.0 ypc) with 55 TD runs.  He has also caught 164 passes for 1,047 yards (6.4 avg) with 4 TD grabs in his NFL career.  McGahee is coming to Denver hungry as he has been to the Pro Bowl once.  He is going to try to push Knowshon Moreno to the bench.  This should be a fun competition to watch in training camp.

The Denver Broncos deal WR Jabar Gaffney to the Redskins

The Denver Broncos have dealt 30-year old WR Jabar Gaffney to the Redskins for 23-year old DE Jeremy Jarmon.  Gaffney played in 16 games (11 starts) for the Broncos last year and he caught 65 passes for 875 yards (13.5 avg) with 2 TD grabs.  He played in 32 games (18 starts) in his two years with the Broncos and he caught 119 passes for 1,607 yards (13.5 avg) with 4 TD grabs.  The Broncos will need to replace Gaffney in the free agent market as he was a solid WR for them.

Jeremy Jarmon played in 5 games for the Redskins last year and he had 3 tackles and 1/2 of a sack.  Jarmon has now played in 16 games in his first two years in the NFL and he has 11 tackles, 1/2 a sack, 1 forced fumble and he has also defensed 1 pass.  Jarmon will get a chance to help the Broncos’ rebuilding on the defensive side of the football.  I think the Redskins got the better end of this deal, but only time will tell if I’m right or not.

UPDATE:  (9/4/2011) – The Broncos have released Jeremy Jarmon.

The Denver Broncos release Correll Buckhalter

Shortly after the lockout was lifted, the Broncos decided to release 32-year old RB Correll Buckhalter.  Buckhalter played in 15 games (0 starts) for the Broncos last year and he carried the ball 59 times for 147 yards (2.5 ypc) with 2 TD runs.  He also caught 28 passes for 240 yards (8.6 avg) with 2 TD grabs.  Buckhalter stayed pretty healthy in his two years with the Broncos and he had one good one and one bad one.  Buckhalter played in 29 games (7 starts) in his two years with the Broncos and he carried the ball 179 times for 789 yards (4.4 ypc) with 3 TD runs.  He also caught 59 passes for 480 yards (8.1 avg) with 2 TD grabs with the Broncos.  The Broncos will be able to get a better RB in free agency than Buckhalter.

Terrell Davis was an awesome RB for the Denver Broncos

Blogged under Blast from the Past,Bloglockers,Front Page,General by admin on Thursday 7 July 2011 at 5:21 pm

The Denver Broncos took RB Terrell Davis in the 6th round of the 1995 NFL Draft and it turned out to be one of the best draft picks in team history.  Davis gave the offense the balance it needed to win a couple of Super Bowls during his time with the team.  Davis played in 78 games in his 7 years with the Broncos and he carried the ball 1,655 times for 7,607 yards (4.6 ypc) with 60 TD runs.  He also caught 169 passes for 1,280 yards (7.6 avg) with 5 TD grabs in his career with the Broncos.  Davis’ best season for the Broncos was in 1998.  He played in 16 games for the Broncos in 1998 and he carried the ball 392 times for 2,008 yards (5.1 ypc) with 21 TD runs.  Davis also caught 25 passes for 217 yards (8.7 avg) with 2 TD grabs in 1998 for the Broncos.   Davis led the NFL in both rushing yards and TD runs in 1998.   Davis’ biggest game came in Super Bowl XXXII when he was named the MVP of the Broncos 31-24 win over the Green Bay Packers.  Davis carried the ball 30 times for 157 yards (5.2 ypc) with 3 TD runs in Super Bowl XXXII.  He also caught 2 passes for 8 yards (4.0 avg) in that Super Bowl.  Davis made it to 3 Pro Bowls in his 7 years with the Broncos.  He has at least 1,000 yards rushing four times with the Broncos and at least 1,500 three  times.  Davis had at least 13 TDs running the ball three times in his career and he led the NFL in rushing TDs in both 1997 and 1998.  Terrell Davis is the Broncos’ all-time leading rusher (7,607 yards) and he’s also the leader in franchise history in TD runs with 60.  I’m not to certain that the Broncos would have won a Super Bowl without Terrell Davis, as he was that good.
