Denver Broncos vs Dallas Cowboys preview

The Denver Broncos (3-0) have played great after their week-one miracle win and are hosting the Dallas Cowboys (2-1) this week.  The Cowboys have been inconsistent this year, especially their quarterback Tony Romo, but they are capable of putting a lot of points on the board.  The Broncos’ first year head coach Josh McDaniels’ and his style of play have fit perfectly with the Broncos and their personnel, and they have been able to control the games.

The Broncos’ Kyle Orton has done nothing spectacular at quarterback with only three passing touchdowns this year, but he has played the position exactly how McDaniels has asked him to.  He manages the game, doesn’t turn it over, and always audibles to a run play when needed.  He has a great duo of running backs to go to with Knowshown Moreno and Correll Buckhalter, who have combined for 414 yards and two touchdowns on 77 carries (5.4 avg) so far this year.

The Cowboys offense can be very dangerous and Tony Romo can make some big plays through the air.  He is very inconsistent though and will take some gambles, so the Broncos may be able to force him into some mistakes like the Giants did in week two.  Romo threw three interceptions in that game, and played very carefully last week because of it.  He will have to be more aggressive in this game though, as their running backs are hurting.  Felix Jones is out and Marion Barber is listed as probably, but I don’t expect him to get a ton of carries since third-stringer Tashard Choice proved he is more than capable at the running back position.  They will most likely split the carries.

The Broncos will look to control the ball and eat up the clock with a strong running game, but the Cowboys defense looked much better last week than in their first two contests.  The Broncos should be effective on the ground, but I don’t expect much out of the mediocre Orton.  I think this will be a tight game but the Cowboys have more weapons than the Broncos and will pull out the victory.

FINAL SCORE PREDICTION:  Broncos 24, Cowboys 28

Denver Broncos at Oakland Raiders preview

Blogged under Bloglockers,Game Previews,If I Were a Betting Man by Andrew on Friday 25 September 2009 at 9:12 pm

The Denver Broncos (2-0) are heading to the Oakland Coliseum this week to take on the Oakland Raiders (1-1).  The Broncos defense has been great so far this season but the offense has been a different story.  The Raiders are in similar circumstances as the Broncos, as their offense is even worse than the Broncos but they also have a revamped, strong defense.

Broncos’ quarterback Kyle Orton will look to get the offense going, but he has not showed much as the passing game has been pretty weak.  The Broncos should be 1-1, but a tipped pass into the hands of Brandon Stokley got the Broncos a last second win in week one.  The Raiders defense has looked very strong and almost upset the highly powered San Diego Chargers.

Raiders’ quarterback JaMarcus Russel has struggled a lot early in the season, but he also shown flashes of great play.  He needs to do a better job with his decision making and not hold on to the ball for so long.  He has gotten decent protection, and the sacks that have occurred are usually Russel’s fault.  One of his protector’s, right guard Robert Gallery, is out at least four weeks after he broke his leg last week.

The Raiders do have a lot of talent on offense, but it hasn’t really clicked yet.  If Russel can get the offense going, the Raiders will win this game for sure.  The Broncos have one of the best defenses in the league though, so that probably wont happen, but the Raiders defense is going to make some plays.  I think both defenses are going to force some turnovers and score some points for their teams and I see the Raiders pulling out a late victory for the upset.

FINAL SCORE PREDICTION:  Broncos 20, Raiders 24

The over/under for Denver Broncos wins is 7.5 for 2008

This numbers seems a tad low to me when you consider that the Broncos will probably win 4 games against the Chiefs and Raiders this season.  That means the Broncos would only have to win 4 games against everyone else and I feel that they will do that with ease.  Take the over with the Broncos in 2008 and double your money.

The over/under on wins for the Denver Broncos is 9.5

I don’t like the idea of taking an over when the team in question has a young starting QB and a defense that can’t stop the run and that’s the Broncos.

On November 12th the Broncos will keep their streak of three straight covers against Oakland in tact.
