The Broncos have waived 25-year old safety Kyle McCarthy.  McCarthy played in 4 games for the Broncos this year and he had 3 whole tackles.  McCarthy played in 12 games in his first two years with the Broncos and he had 7 tackles.  This isn’t much of a loss for the Broncos moving forward.

The Broncos have waived 29-year old PR/KR Quan Cosby.  Cosby played in 10 games for the Broncos this year and he returned 27 punts for 269 yards (10.0 avg) and 17 kickoffs for 457 yards (26.9 avg).  Cosby will be replaced by WR Eddie Royal.  Royal has played in 11 games for the Broncos this year and he has returned 10 punts for 171 yards (17.1 avg) with 1 TD and he has also returned 3 kickoffs for 47 yards (15.7 avg).  Royal has also caught 19 passes for 155 yards (8.2 ypc) with 1 TD grab and he has carried the ball 5 times for 30 yards (6.0 ypc).

The Broncos have waived 29-year old QB Kyle Orton.  Orton played in 5 games (all starts) for the Broncos this year and he completed 91 of 155 passes (58.7%) for 979 yards with 8 TD passes and 7 INTs (75.7 QB Rating).  He has also carried the ball 5 times for 17 yards (3.4 ypc) for the Broncos this year.  Orton played in 34 games (33 starts) in his three years with the Broncos and he completed 720 of 1,194 passes (60.3%) for 8,434 yards with 49 TD passes and 28 INTs (85.7 QB Rating).  He also carried the ball 53 times for 92 yards (1.7 ypc) with 3 TD runs for the Broncos.  This puts a lot of pressure on Tim Tebow, who now doesn’t have to look over his shoulder anymore.  Plus, Brady Quinn will have to step up as the new #2 QB of the Broncos.  The Broncos should have dealt Orton before the season started as they won’t get anything for him now.

UPDATE:  The Broncos might not have cut Kyle Orton loose if they knew the Chiefs would claim him.  The Broncos have to play the Chiefs on January 1st in Denver.

The Denver Broncos have signed 28-year old WR/PR/KR Quan Cosby.  Cosby played in all 16 games for the Bengals last year and he caught 2 passes for 16 yards (8.0 avg).  Cosby also returned 30 punts for 225 yards (7.5 avg) and 3 kickoffs for 44 yards (14.7 avg) last year.  With Eric Decker being more of a part of the offense, it’s possible that Cosby will return both kickoffs and punts for the Broncos going forward.  Cosby has now played in 32 games (0 starts) in his first two years in the NFL and he has caught 6 passes for 71 yards (11.8 avg).  Cosby has also returned 70 punts for 699 yards (10.0 avg) and 16 kickoffs for 283 yards (17.7 avg) in his NFL career so far.  The Broncos have waived 24-year old RB Jeremiah Johnson to make room on the roster for Cosby.  Johnson played in 1 game for the Broncos this year but he didn’t touch the ball.

The Broncos have released 25-year old safety Darcel McBath.  McBath played in 7 games for the Broncos last year and he had 17 tackles and 1 pass defensed.  He played in 20 games in his two years with the Broncos and he had 43 tackles, 2 interceptions and 4 passes defensed.  McBath was a huge disappointment in his time with the Broncos and they won’t miss him one bit going forward.

The Broncos have released 26-year old TE Dan Gronkowski.  Gronkowski played in 12 games (4 starts) for the Broncos last year and he caught 8 passes for 65 yards (8.1 avg).  He has now played in 14 games (4 starts) in his first two years in the NFL and he has caught 9 passes for 69 yards (7.7 avg).  This is no loss for the Broncos who have reloaded at TE for the 2011 season.

The Broncos have released 24-year old CB Perrish Cox.  Cox played in 15 games as a rookie for the Broncos last year and he had 58 tackles, 14 passes defensed, 1 interception, 2 forced fumbles and 2 tackles for a loss.  He also returned 3 punts for 7 yards (2.3 avg) and 9 kickoffs for 172 yards (19.1 avg) last year.  On the field, Cox is a playmaker, but I think he was cut for how he acts off the field.

The Broncos have released 29-year old  CB Nate Jones.  Jones played in all 16 games for the Broncos last year and he had 57 tackles and 3 passes defensed.  This should be looked at as good news for Broncos’ fans as Jones wasn’t much of a playmaker in the passing game, despite getting quite a bit of P.T. in 2010.  So it’s out with the old and in with the new in Denver.

The Broncos have released 26-year old RB LenDale White.  White didn’t play in any games for the Broncos last year despite being on the team.  White has played in 58 games (18 starts) in his first four years in the NFL and he has 628 carries for 2,349 yards (3.7 ypc) with 24 TD runs.  He has also caught 42 passes for 204 yards (4.9 avg) in his NFL career.  This is not a big loss for the Broncos as they think they are solid at RB for 2011.
